Library Policies

Policies: Help

General Library Policies

  • Hats are NOT to be worn inside the school

  • Food and drink are allowed at this time. Students are responsible for disposing of their garbage and cleaning any mess they make.

    • This can change if library or custodial staff feel that students aren't meeting expectations.

  • Cellphones must be used appropriately while in the library. We ask that no speakerphone or video calls are made or answered in the library.

    • If needed, students can ask for a seminar room to make private calls if one is available.

  • Headphones or earbuds must be used to listen to audio in the library as to not disrupt others.

Computer Use

Computers must be used appropriately and responsibly.

School work takes priority for computer use.

Games can be played at any time. However, if a computer is needed for school work and none are available, those playing games will be asked to log out for the other student to use. Any games featuring overt violence are NOT acceptable.

This policy is in accordance with the Lord Selkirk School Division's Code of Conduct.

You are allowed:

    • 2 weeks loan

    • 2 renewals

  • 2 Graphic Novels / Manga / Illustrated Books

    • 1 week loan

    • 2 renewals

The above loan policies apply the same to our French, Spanish, and Indigenous languages collections.

Exceptions to these may be made at library staff's discretion.

Lost / Damaged Resources

Students are responsible for any lost or damaged resources checked out to their account. They will be able to use resources in the library until the matter has been resolved to the library staff's expectations. Lost items will be charged to the student's PSA.

**In some cases, damaged books can be fixed. Please bring them as soon as possible to the library and staff may be able to fix it with no further penalty to the student.**

Overdues

Overdue lists are posted monthly at the library entrance. Books are considered overdue if they have not been returned or renewed before their due date.

Students will not be able to sign out new materials if they have overdue items. They will still have access to resources for in-library use only.

There are no late fees charged for overdue books. At the end of each semester, students will be charged the full amount of each overdue resource to their Power School Account (PSA).

Once the resource has been returned, this charge will be cleared so long as it is in good condition. If the resource is returned damaged (ex. water spill, food stain) or in poor condition beyond what is normal wear and tear, the replacement charge will remain on the PSA.

Textbooks

Most textbooks issued are signed out to students' library accounts. Those will be signed out with the class at the teacher's request. Due to limited supplies, students will not be issued a textbook outside of their scheduled time unless library staff has notice from the student's teacher.

Textbooks are to be returned at the end of the semester or at the teachers' request. As with library books, any textbooks not returned or lost will be charged to the student's PSA and will only be cleared upon return or payment.

Any damaged textbooks may also remain on a student's PSA if it is beyond regular wear and tear.

**In some cases, damaged books can be fixed. Please bring them as soon as possible to the library and staff may be able to fix it with no further penalty to the student.**
